You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…

– John Lennon

I know for sure I am not the only dreamer in this world of ours, as time keeps moving forward, and changes rapidly occur.

But just imagine, if there was peace…

Imagine we could live in a world where there was no worry about what other people thought or said, or what type of clothes we wore, or what kind of house we lived in, etc. etc…

Imagine, if there was no hatred.Imagine, if there was no poverty.Imagine, if there was no starvation.Imagine, if there was no mental health issues.Imagine, if there was no judgement.Imagine, if there was no criticism.Imagine, if there was no violence.Imagine, if we were all treated equally.
This world would be a pretty amazing place, wouldn’t it?!

I remember the time when I went to work one morning. Let me tell you this story …
My routine was, I would drive the two hour commute to work (each way). I would listen to music, have my coffee and yes, my terrible havit of smoking. BUT, it kept the morning drive moving along smoothly and fast!

I wasn’t someone who listened to the news. And even still, I don’t. I know – pretty bad, eh? I know most of the major things happening around this world, but not every little detail. I try to stay focused on my family. I try to enjoy the little things as much as I can, with my family.

Anyways, this particular morning at work – I went to get my coffee in the kitchen before starting the day, and a colleague of mine asked me if I had heard the news that morning (I forget what had happened). I replied to him with a simple “Sorry, but no”, and he had this shocked look on his face.

He then asked me why and I pointed out to him, “I don’t watch the news. I don’t listen to the news. I don’t read the news. It’s all lies and stories and there is just too much bad stuff happening in the world. I need to focus on my family.”

Yes, total look of shock.
He said to me … “Wow, ignorance is bliss”.
Ignorance is bliss? I asked myself.
I just kind of chuckled and went to my desk. Later, he approached me, and I HAD to ask, “What did you mean by ignorance is bliss?”.
He said to me, “You have no clue as to what’s going on around the world”. As soon as he said that, I started to get emotional. I was thinking in my head, how can this guy tell me that I’m ignorant just because I don’t follow the news??!! He knows nothing about me – how can he be so judgmental?!!!

The thing is, I didn’t understand the true meaning of “ignorance is bliss”. I had no idea that it meant “if you do not know about something, you do not worry about it.”
When he realized that I didn’t understand it, he explained it to me and we talked more about it and what was going on in the world. I apologized because I seriously had no clue!!

Today, as I mentioned, I am still guilty. I don’t follow the news. I just live my life day by day. I believe it is a better thing for me not to know all the crappy and sad stuff going on. Climate Change? Coronavirus? Trump? Seriously. I just can’t.
Is that a bad thing? Maybe to some people…but my reasons are my reasons, and validating enough, I think. It’s depressing listening to the news. It’s depressing listening to the politics. Why would I want to surround myself with such negativity?? I worry enough about my children, my vision, my every day challenges…

The way I see it, all we can do is hope for a better world, but it doesn’t stop there. We can HELP contribute to making it a better place to be. Lend a helping hand. Don’t be judgemental. And, show kindness and compassion.

One of my favourite songs, by the one and only – John Lennon – Imagine.

“Let’s untangle our mind, and set it free…”
